CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Jonathan
SERIES: Hotel Transylvania
CANON POINT: Post film
LOSS: The ability to tell stories of his travels. A major part of Johnny’s character is his constant relating of current situations against his own past experiences- he always seems to find a way to relate things to his travels. But in Paradisa, whenever he feels like comparing events, the story will simply slip his mind and he will briefly forget what he was talking about previously.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Johnny is a go with the flow kind of guy. “Just roll with it”: that’s his motto. A seasoned world traveler, he’s easily adaptable, taking everything with a relaxed state of open-mindedness; even in the face of monsters. And that kind of attitude in life is what eventually led him to his greatest adventure yet.
An open minded and adventurous soul, Johnny loves trying new things and exploring new and exciting locations. He’s adventurous, with a strong dislike towards sitting around and doing nothing. Johnny is a character who’s always on the move, whether it’s mountain climbing, table surfing, or just riding around on his scooter. So really, after getting over the initial shock, visiting a hotel full of monsters was another epic step on his journey around the world.
There are times when Johnny appears to be rather oblivious to his surroundings- preferring to only take in what’s deemed as cool. That’s proven when he seemingly ignores Dracula’s frequent attempts to have him leave the hotel. It’s not a form of stupidity, instead Johnny seems to become so wrapped up in having fun and living his life to fullest, everything else just falls away. He’s awkward, flailing and tripping over his own to feet coupled with the occasional burst of muttering to himself. The apparent lack of a filter between his brain and his mouth also seems to be a problem at times, since the young man tends to ramble about whatever comes to his mind at the time.
Johnny does take away a lot from his travels. His appreciations range from the history of the places he visits, to the simple beauty of watching the sunrise. That appreciation only grows after his meetingor crashing into Mavis, Dracula’s teenage daughter. The attraction between the two of them is an immediate, but somewhat bumbling on his part, one. She's lived the sheltered life, while he's seen the world... it's an interesting combination, to say the least. Coupled with the fact that she's a vampire with an extremely over-protective father, it's a wonder their relationship grew at all.
ABILITIES: Johnny is just your average twenty one year old human male. He’s not particularly strong or fast, and has no supernatural abilities to speak of.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: [ 250 WORDS MINIMUM. In a third-person perspective, write a couple of paragraphs featuring your character. It will used as a measure of your characterization and writing ability, so we advise to choose a premise that will best demonstrate those things. ]
FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE: [ 100 WORDS MINIMUM. In the first-person voice, write as if the character were making an entry in their journal, ideally using little to no action descriptors. It should be long enough to show that you have a grasp of the character's voice.
OPTIONAL: If you prefer, you may link to sample threads in place of writing a 100 word sample. The replies from your character should equal or exceed 100 words. ]
INTENT: [ BONUS QUESTION. What draws you to play this particular character? Ideally, what would you like to do with the character in Paradisa? There is no wrong answer, and no penalty if you don't have one; we're simply curious.]
